Turns out the operating system works fine, just that I missed the fact that the hard drive was disconnected. Derp.

Anyway, it runs! I set it up next to my real PC. Progress, people. This is twenty years of progress next to each other.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

As far as the other PC is concerned, it’s been gutted. I may put it back together since all the parts, including the case, are in really good shape. It had a purple motherboard!

Nice HP! Pentium II?

Kinja'd!!!

The first computer I really used was an HP (the one pictured, actually).

Kinja'd!!!

Now you just need the rest of the equipment to go with your “new” tower...

Oh man, that CRT with “integrated” speakers.

It has an Intel Celeron (Celery) processor.

Jesus that Phantom case is massive. I mean, I built several, but holy hell. My monster of a desktop is little compared to that thing.

Even my old Pentium 3 Xeon rig is smaller...

It’s a great monitor; great resolution and picture quality. It is heavy though (19" CRT - 55 lbs).

You could probably upgrade that Celeron to a Pentium II or Pentium III (depending on the chipset) if you were so inclined. If it’s a Slot 1 processor (the connection to the motherboard) then it’s probably one of the easiest processor to change (no messing with thermal paste required). If you look around, you can find them for ~$10 on eBay.

I just got an ROG to run my VR. It’s pretty nuts, you can run full settings on anything. One game said, are you sure you want to run these settings, really sure? Yes, POWWAAAHHHH I got a discount with my Oculus pre order, then I worked for Oculus at the GDC show and I tried other stuff, cancelled the Oculus and pre ordered the Vive.

Your old school box is about the size of my s340 skylake-evga980ti build. Makes me want to find something of this vintage and make it run an operable OS for fun and maybe some classic games: Indiana Jones, descent, etc.

OH MAN THAT FUCKING PRINTER

I hated that thing when I was younger.

Anyways congrats! You should see if it has an ISA slot and put on a fuckin’ Soundblaster 16/AWE32/64

Surprisingly, I have less trouble with this printer (and my DeskJet 720) than I do with modern printers.

There’s not much too congratulate with this one; it’s not a recent acquisition if that’s what you mean (I’ve had it for ~18 years!)

It probably has an ISA slot, but I don’t remember (it’s been a while since I’ve had it open). This one doesn’t get used enough compared to the other machines I have to justify a Soundblaster.
